Artwork on Behalf of Private Clients
Terms and Conditions for the Sale of Artwork on Behalf of Private Clients
These Terms and Conditions govern the sale of artwork submitted to Turner Fine Arts (“TFA”, “we”, “us”) by private individuals (“you”, “the client”) for listing and sale through our website and associated marketing channels.
-
Before we can list your artwork for sale, we ask that you provide as much information as possible about the piece, including:
• The size of the artwork
• The medium (for example oil, watercolour, bronze, mixed media)
• The artist’s name
• When and where the piece was purchased
• Any letters of provenance or supporting documentation
• The price you are hoping to achieve for the work
If your artwork is a painting, we also ask that you provide the framed size and the unframed size, along with details of the frames condition, including any marks, scratches, or damage. A well-presented frame can make a real difference to how a painting is received by buyers, so this detail helps us represent the piece accurately and set the right expectations from the outset.
The more detail you can give us, the more accurately and effectively we can present your artwork to potential buyers.
-
We also ask that you supply the following photographs of the artwork:
• A clear image of the front
• A clear image of the back
• Close-up images of any damage, wear, or areas of concern
• For framed paintings, a photograph of the frame itself, along with close-ups of any marks, scratches, or damage to it
• Your own assessment of the artwork’s condition, described as poor, medium, good, or excellent.
-
Once we have received your information and images, Turner Fine Arts will upload your artwork to our website for sale on your behalf. We will also promote the piece across our social media channels, which may include Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, and TikTok.
-
You may choose how your artwork is priced on our website in one of two ways:
• Price on application, where interested parties are invited to contact us directly to make an offer; or
• A guide price, reflecting the amount you are hoping to achieve for the piece.
-
Where a prospective buyer contacts us with interest in purchasing your artwork, we will ask them to submit an offer. If that offer is close to your asking price, we will contact you to let you know the amount offered and ask whether you would like to accept it. No sale will proceed without your agreement to the offer presented.
-
Should you choose to accept an offer, Turner Fine Arts will charge a commission on the agreed sale price. Our standard commission is 20%, though this may be adjusted, either higher or lower, depending on the circumstances of the individual sale. Any variation from our standard rate will always be agreed with you in writing before your artwork is listed.
-
A fee is charged to list your artwork on our website and to carry out associated social media marketing across our channels, payable at the point of listing:
• £70 covers a listing period of 6 months from the date your artwork goes live
• £100 covers a listing period of 12 months from the date your artwork goes live
Should your artwork sell through Turner Fine Arts within your chosen period, the listing fee is reimbursed to you and deducted from the balance owed to us, alongside our commission. If your artwork remains unsold by the end of the period, the listing fee is retained by Turner Fine Arts to cover the marketing already carried out, though we would of course be pleased to discuss relisting or extending the arrangement with you at that point.
Worked example: if a piece sells for £1,000 while on a 6-month listing, our 20% commission is £200. The £70 listing fee is deducted from this commission, meaning you would be asked to pay Turner Fine Arts a total of £130.
Optional paid advertising: beyond our standard social media marketing, clients are welcome to invest in paid advertising to give their artwork additional visibility. This is entirely optional and at the client’s discretion, both in terms of budget and the channels the spend is directed towards. Should you wish to explore this, we will put together a proposed advertising budget and plan with you. This is particularly worth considering for higher-value pieces, where even a modest additional spend can meaningfully broaden the pool of prospective buyers.
-
Where the artwork remains with you and a sale is brokered by Turner Fine Arts, we will collect payment from the buyer on your behalf, and you will then be asked to confirm that the artwork has been carefully packaged and dispatched to them. Once the buyer confirms receipt of the artwork and their satisfaction with it, we will release the funds owed to you, having deducted our commission as agreed.
In line with UK consumer law, buyers are entitled to a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of receipt, during which they may return the artwork should they simply change their mind. Where a buyer exercises this right, they are responsible for the cost of returning the piece to you.
You are responsible for ensuring the artwork is packaged appropriately and that suitable insurance is in place to cover it in transit, in both directions. We are happy to recommend courier companies we work with regularly for the delivery and collection of artwork.
Where a buyer returns a piece, it should be sent directly to you at their expense. Once you have received the artwork and confirmed to us that it has arrived in the condition it was sent, we will refund the buyer the monies paid.
-
Turner Fine Arts cannot guarantee the sale of any artwork listed with us. Listing a piece for sale is not a promise or assurance that a buyer will be found.
-
If you sell your artwork through another party or by your own means while it remains listed with Turner Fine Arts, the listing fee is non-refundable. This fee is only reimbursed where the sale is completed through Turner Fine Arts and deducted directly from our commission on that sale, as set out in Section 7.
