Shirley Borokhov

Profile

Shirley Borokhov is the granddaughter of a Russian cabinet-maker who was coerced into becoming a Cossack because of his exceptional skills as a rider. After escaping to England at the turn of the last century, he never rode again. But, as is the quirky nature of genetic influence, both his granddaughter and great granddaughter have an obsession with horses!

Shirley Borokhov is an artist who has work in private collections all over the world. Primarily a sculptor, her paintings and drawings have an equally idiosyncratic and recognisable style. Although her head portraits are poignantly realistic, she has a predilection for subjects caught in action - especially horses - but also dancers, gymnasts, and other athletes.

Interestingly a lot of interior designers like to use Borokhov's work to add verve and gusto to their interior settings.
